Acting Mayor Rama a Wimp

February 15th, 2009

In the last mayoralty elections, the opposition came up with an advertisement showing Mayor Tommy Osmeña ordering Vice-mayor Mike Rama to jump off a tall building and Rama simply responding to the order with the question, “What floor, sir?”

It was a tasteless ad, which cost the opposition the election by a landslide, but many Cebuanos saw some truth to it. Acting Mayor Mike Rama (Mayor Tommy is in the US for treatment) is perceived to be a wimp. The Ms. Cebu 2009 brouhaha is proving this point.

Instead of being decisive in an emotional issue, Rama flip-flopped causing the Burdens to distrust him and the Cebu City Tourism Commission to be on the defensive. The Burdens now want to sue the CCTC and the CCTC is getting all the flak from media. In other words, this issue, which could have been settled quietly had Rama been more decisive, is now becoming a circus.

And this is merely a beauty pageant! Pastilan!

Suppose something more serious would happen, God forbid, like a terrorist attack or a major calamity. I can only dread how Rama would react.

Even now, I’m presuming Cebuanos are praying for Mayor Tommy’s speedy recovery and return. Perhaps even his detractors!

Mike Rama is a true leader with a heart. As a lawyer, he decides on issues based on law and what is just and proper. In fact in a number of issues, he disagreed with Mayor Tom Osmena. It just showed that he is not a rubber stamp nor a wimp.

Regarding the Miss Cebu, Vice Mayor Rama immediately gave a firm decision to have the name of the true winner of the Texter\\\’s Choice.
