Rep. Cuenco Should Know Better

January 27th, 2009

Congressman Tony Cuenco the other day gave hints that at least 5 Cebu prosecutors accepted bribes. He also mentioned that these were unsubstantiated reports.

In other words, Cuenco was opening his mouth based on hearsay. Isn’t the congressman a lawyer? As such, shouldn’t he know that hearsay is virtually nothing? Why does he have to cast a pall of suspicion over a group of people based on nothing?

Perhaps the congressman is starving for an expose he can grandstand on. I’m not a fan of our Justice department, but neither am I a fan of congress. Both bodies, in my humble opinion, are swarming with GMA sycophants.

But it’s those hints and innuendos without basis whatsoever that politicians like to spew out that really gets my goat. They do this to attract news reporters, who in turn will write just about anything for that elusive scoop. Sun-Star Daily, for instance, called it a revelation. What!??!

When politicians open their mouths to only blow hot air, they’re teaching Filipinos that it’s alright to be immature in their outlook and decisions and that rumors and mudslinging are more important than facts and good sleuthing.

Perhaps this is because, if Filipinos were smarter in their decisions, then they wouldn’t vote for people like Cuenco and that other congressman who likes to plaster his name on a flyover.

Cuenco, grow up!
