Somebody made a boo-boo during the recently held Ms. Cebu 2009 pageant. In announcing the Globe Texters’ Choice award, candidate #12, Kris Tiffany Janson’s name was called (she was later crowned Ms. Cebu). It turned out that the Globe Texters’ Choice was, in fact, Kimberley Therese Burden.
Now, the Burden family is causing a raucous for what Jerry Yntig of Globe Telecommunications called an honest mistake. Kimberley wants to return her second runner-up crown and awards; and the family wants to sue the Cebu City Tourism Commission (CCTC), the organizer of Ms. Cebu.
Frankly I don’t see what the brouhaha is all about. It was a mere mis-announcement. The text messages were already counted. Even the aunt of Kimberley already knew it was Kimberley who won. So it can’t be said that there was cheating.
Because that part of the contest had already been decided, it was now up to the contestants’ over-all personalities that would determine the winner. The eventual choice of the judges had nothing to do anymore with the texters’ count.
I believe Kimberley would stand out more if she just accepts the apology of Globe and continues to be a part of the Ms.Cebu court. Acting, however, in the way she did only makes her look like a spoiled brat.
